What do we look for in a leader? Is the leader of a Simple Church always the person with the right training, the right personality, the right gifts and abilities? Or is Simple Church leadership less complicated? What makes a leader among a group of Christ-Followers? Listen as Tom and Gavin discuss Biblical Leadership for the Simple Church.
As we evaluate what a Simple Church is and what it does, we ask ourselves questions like, “What is absolutely necessary for a church to exist? What is optional? What things are hindering the church from being all that God wants it to be?” Today we look at two concepts of modern church – Professionals and Programs, and we ask, “Are these things absolutely necessary to have a vibrant and growing church?”
Today, Gavin and Tom ask the question “What IS a church?” We can all describe church based on what we experience: a place to go, a group to belong to. But what do the scriptures say about who or what is the Church?
Watch this video to see the “triangle and square” concept Gavin described in the podcast:
What happens if a person finds himself or herself trapped in a ministerial vocation that just doesn’t seem like a good fit, or is leading that person to ministry burnout? Is the simple church the answer? Maybe. Maybe not. Today Tom and Gavin discuss transitioning from a paid church ministry job into a simpler form of ministry. First, a huge caveat: WE ARE NOT ENCOURAGING ANYONE IN MINISTRY TO LEAVE THEIR POSITION!

Churches in North America are currently not growing at a rate that will keep up with increases in population. Statistics show that more than 6000 new traditional churches must be created each year just to keep up with the current percentage of church attendance, which is already dismally low. Could a more simple type of church planting movement be able to keep up or maybe even surpass this statistic? Tom and Gavin will discuss Church Planting Movements and the roll of the Simple Church in such a movement.
Sometimes, both leadership and training are unfortunately downplayed within Simple Churches. But is this a good trend? Don’t we need leaders? And don’t we need to train them? And what would this training look like? From Mentoring Relationships to formal Seminary Education, Tom and Gavin explore various ways to equip leaders in the Simple Church. Part 2 of 2 parts.
Gavin, Matt and Tom continue their discussion on the Ordinances or Sacraments. This episode focuses on Baptism. How is baptism done in a Simple Church? Who can baptize another? Where can baptism take place? What are the practical concerns with conducting a baptism?
Tom, Gavin and Matt discuss leadership in the Simple Church. Who are the leaders? What are their qualifications? How are leaders chosen? What are their responsibilities? We explore some of these issues.
God gave the church Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Shepherds and Teachers in order to build up and equip the church for service (Ephesians 4:11-12). Who are these people and what do they do? Which one(s) are you? Part two of a two part series.
