What does a person mean when they say they are “deconstructing their faith?” Does it mean that they have questions, or even doubts about their faith in Christ, or does it mean that they are walking away from their faith altogether? If so, what can the church do to help such a person? Tom and Gavin explore this phenomenon in the North American Church.

Tom and Gavin review the popular Christianity Today podcast series, “The Rise and Fall of Mars Hill.” We examine the spectacular arc of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, pastored by Mark Driscoll, from its simple beginnings to its tremendous popularity and its sudden implosion in 2014. There is much for any church to learn from this story and the Keep it Simple Podcast will highlight some of the cautionary lessons to be learned.

In today’s lively discussion, Tom “ambushes” Gavin with an impromptu question: What is the local church’s responsibility towards its members/attendees? Listen as Tom and Gavin hash out what they see are just some of the duties that a local expression of a church should perform to serve its congregation.
Today, Tom and Gavin reflect on the many ways that their churches have blessed them over the years. During times of blessing and during times of heartbreak, our brothers and sisters in Christ rally to help and encourage us. Let us continue to bless each other as we practice the “one-anothers.”
Participating in a simple form of church means that everyone is encouraged to contribute to the church’s regular gatherings. This can be a great way to hear from God by hearing what He is teaching others. But what happens when there is someone in your midst that interferes in that communication process? What do you do with the person who perhaps talks too much and won’t let others speak? Or what about a disruptive person? A false teacher? In this second part of two episodes, Tom and Gavin discuss what can be done when your meetings are “hijacked” by insensitive people.
